[Book Tour] Danny by Margo Anne Rhea

Paige Warren is sure she’s come to terms with her impending divorce, until she wakes up in bed with her soon-to-be ex, Danny. Worse yet, the bed belongs to Stacey, the sexual surrogate Paige and Danny have been sleeping with for months -- and Stacey’s not there.

As much as Paige tries to deny it, she soon realizes she’s still in love with Danny. Now she’s torn between him and the woman who holds them together. Should she risk hurting Stacey to rekindle a monogamous relationship with the man she once thought she’d spend the rest of her life with, or should she learn from past experience?

Danny is a sensual, erotic novella following one woman's struggle between a love she thought was over and a relationship that's barely begun

You can add Danny to your to-read list on Goodreads:

© 2013 Margo Anne Rhea
THE MORNING I REALIZED I still had feelings for Danny was a rainy, gloomy one. Just like all those lazy, stormy Saturdays he and I used to spend in bed together–before Stacey. A hand slid up my thigh, pulling me from sleep. I stretched into the caress, reaching out for her. My muscles ached with that well-used, morning-after feeling. How like Stacey–to wake up wanting more.
I crawled sleepy fingers across linen until I felt warmth, smooth skin, a hipbone. Goose bumps rose under my hand, and I traveled north for more fun. The corners of my lips turned up in a smile as I anticipated cupping Stacey’s full breast, her taut nipple tickling my palm.
But instead I was fondling a very flat, very male chest. I’d like to say I shot off the bed faster than I’d ever moved before. But I didn’t. Instead, I lingered, breathing in time to his heartbeat. I would know that cadence anywhere. I’d laid my head on that chest and listened to that heart beat a million times before, but I pried my eyes open and focused on him, just to be sure.
The sight that greeted me was all too familiar: lean muscles; smooth, tan skin; dark, military hair. His square jaw clenched tight, and his brown eyes narrowed in an unreadable expression. Yep, I was in bed with my husband–my naked, estranged husband. And our girlfriend was nowhere to be seen.
“Where’s Stacey?” I whispered the words. Maybe I was afraid I would spook him. Maybe I was afraid I’d spook myself. I still hadn’t taken my hand back.
“Work, early.” The old Danny would have made sure I knew when she’d left, when she would be back, and every detail in between. Of course, the old Danny wouldn’t be married to one woman and sleeping with another.
I sighed and reclaimed my hand; his was still on my leg. Three years of marriage had been reduced to two-word sentences and mistaken caresses. I slid to the edge of the bed, keeping the ecru sheet stretched securely over my nudity. Danny traced my spine with his fingertips as I turned my bare back to him and kicked my legs over the edge of the bed.
He exhaled heavily. “Don’t go.” His voice was soft and gravelly. I froze at the sound of it. “Paige, stay.” He tried again, but all his entreaty did was spur me into motion.
My panties were on the floor by my feet, and I wasted no time yanking the pink lace up my legs. The sheet slipped, falling with a soft whoosh onto its fitted counterpart as I stood to pull those panties into place. He moaned the second my ass was covered.

[Guest Post] Writing Craft for the Craftless by Selena Laurence

It's a pleasure to have fellow Crimson Romance author, Selena Laurence, at my blog today. She shares some great advice for writer's like me. Hope you enjoy!

Writing Craft for the Craftless

My critique partner, Jamie, loves craft. The craft of writing, that is. She has books and articles and reams of materials on craft. She’s studied it for years. She’s looks at charts and graphs and has giant white boards with post-it notes in all different colors.

The only craft book I own is one she gave me. I think I opened up the first page once, but then I got hungry and put it back on the shelf. When I look at Jamie’s fancy interpretations of where a story is supposed to climax, or hear her talk about “filter words” and “dark moments” my head spins and my eyes glaze over. So, how the hell do you write and publish a book when you have no interest in learning how to write one?

First and foremost? You read. And I mean LOTS. You have to read and read and read if you want the rhythm and logic of how a story is constructed to penetrate your craft-free head. Luckily for me that’s a simple task. I love to read beyond all normal human reason. I own over 700 romance novels. So, yeah, I’ve incorporated some basic story structure into my subconscious.

The next step is a little more intentional. Look at several authors who write what you want to write, and examine the structure of their stories. Most of the time you’ll probably notice that things consistently happen at the 25%, 50%, and 75% marks in their books (ebooks are great for tracking those percentage marker in books). If you’re a Romance writer like me, you’ll probably start to see that sex happens at 50%. Yay, we love that midpoint, don’t we? Once you realize that there are markers for action it’ll help you decide whether to add that extra scene before they make-up or break-up or get down and dirty, because you’ll be able to see what needs to happen at those markers.

Next, put your work on display. Yeah, I know, we all hate that, but if you’re craftless, it’s even more important to get feedback. Get a critique partner, beta readers, and a good solid revision process. I just naturally fast-draft my work, so after phase one I’m left with the shell of a story and have to go back through it and add layers of things like sensory details, smooth out transitions and fix details that need research.  I show my critique partner some portion of the manuscript at this point, then once the second layer is applied I go through a formal revision process, checking for certain mistakes I know I make, fixing those words I repeat over and over, adding in more sensory details if I need to, etc. Then, the full manuscript is off to my beta readers and my critique partner.

This is the point at which my critique partner calls me “90% girl” because I don’t want to do the really hard last 10%. I don’t like craft because I don’t like details. They give me a headache, and they’re hard (do you hear the whining here?). But, they have to be done, so after I hear back from everyone who’s seen it, I revise AGAIN!

At the end of all of this I have what I think is a pretty good book. I can’t put the plot points on a chart for you (although Jamie could), or graph out where the dark moment occurs in relationship to the word count, but people say I’ve told a good story, and in the end that’s what matters to me. And, I’ve saved myself from the fate worse than death, learning about craft. Craft is after all for breweries not books.

Hot Heroes Faceoff Round 3: Crimson Romance Authors

Hot Heroes Faceoff Round 3

The Battle heats up on May 21!

Crimson Romance authors love their leading men and are willing to fight for them. Join us on May 21 for Round 3 of the Hot Heroes Faceoff! The event last all day with the heroes posting details about themselves and their books—and yes, there will be many hot photos as the heroes rally for votes!
Our two heroes squaring off are intrepid journalist and Round 2 Winner Dylan Bond from In Love and War by Tara Mills and horse rancher and shape-shifting wolf Aidan Gael from Fated Souls by Becky Flade.

Here’s a little background on these hotties:

Dylan Bond is a brave journalist with a heart of gold who’ll risk his own skin to help others. He’s a guy with grit and a grin, substance and scruff. When he commits to something, it’s all the way.

Aidan Gael lives in forced solitude with his secrets and his grief. He spends the days on his ranch in the sunlight with his horses. But his nights are spent in the forest, running through the tress as the wolf, Gealach. This handsome green-eyed man guards his heart even better than he does his secrets. Tragedy has defined him; a curse binds him; and he is determined to protect the woman that loves him – from him.
Dylan and Aidan are currently undergoing intense training with their authors and virtual coaches. How’s it going so far?

We questioned our heroes.

Dylan - How are you feeling after taking Round 2 and defeating Chago?
“Wiped out. Ariela’s been merciless. She’s taking this next round far more seriously than I am, fussing over my clothes — the woman took me shopping! She made me trim up the beard AND get a haircut. And she went through my dresser and got rid of a bunch of my favorite shirts and jeans. Everything that was soft and comfortable, perfectly broken in — she bagged it all up and took it out to the curb. I’m thinking going back into a combat zone is looking pretty good about now. She did love the celebratory dinner I made her after the second round, but this time, I think she’s going to owe me. I’ve been dropping some pretty strong hints, usually while I’m doing push-ups. She’s got me doing push-ups! And she puts her foot on my back to make it harder. If I didn’t already know how unpleasant it is to take a bullet, I’d say, just shoot me. Shoot me now.”

Aidan, are you ready to face off against Dylan?
“Good afternoon, ladies. To be honest, I'm not excited to be going up against a journalist. After spending almost all of my adult life avoiding people in general I fall in love with an investigative journalist and find myself being judged for "hotness" against another one. It's bizarre. But Mags, well that's another story altogether. She has been strategizing all week. And snapping pictures of me left and right. She is really excited about the competition and Dylan being a fellow journalist; I guess all the prepping I'll be doing is putting my faith and trust in my Rock Star.”

Two men enter, one man leaves. Who will it be? That's for you to decide. Join us at:

Bed, Breakfast and You by Lacey Wolfe

Bed, Breakfast, and You by Lacey Wolfe
The Brookfield Series Prequel

Claire holds the keys to her future, in more than one way.

As if the recent death of Claire Stevens’ parents isn’t enough, someone wants to steal Honeycreek Bed and Breakfast right out from under her. But Claire isn’t about to roll over and let them. She’s prepared to fight.

Jace Brown is Brookfield’s main attorney, and after delivering the bad news to Claire about her property, he knows all about being on her bad side.

As Claire gets to the bottom of this scandal, she’s surprised to have Jace by her side, fighting along with her. The attraction is instant, but can it last after the dust settles?

Claire walked around the inside of Honeycreek Bed and Breakfast and made notes on things she wanted to do before the grand reopening. She’d planned on opening it almost right away, but with this tax crap, she knew she needed to wait. Which meant she had no money coming into her pocket.

She remembered Jace needed a receptionist. Maybe she could temporarily work for him—the enemy. Then she’d be on the inside and she’d have access to files. She was brilliant. Why hadn’t she thought of this before?
But would Jace hire her?

The chances were pretty slim, but it never hurt to ask.

She headed back to her cabin to find the card he’d given her with his info on it. She’d much rather be shot down for the job over the phone than in person. The papers were now in her bedroom on her nightstand. She sifted through them until she found the small rectangular business card.

She pulled her cell phone from her back pocket and dialed the number.
“Jace Brown speaking,” he answered.

“Jace, it’s Claire.”

“What can I do for you?”

She smiled, now wishing she could see his face. “I’m calling about the assistant job. Do you still need someone?”

“Yeah, but—”

“With this mess going on, I could temporarily fill that position. I have no money coming in since I can’t reopen Honeycreek at the moment. And it would be a win-win for us both,” she explained.

“Yeah, but—”

“I just can’t see how it would be bad. You have someone to answer your phones and I’ll be able to make some money. And if I’m being honest, it might help me find the bad guy. Unless you’re the bad guy.”

“Can I speak now?” he asked.

She giggled. “Sure.”

“I’d love to hire you, but that would look odd, wouldn’t it?”

“What’s so odd about it? I need a job and you’re desperate to hire.”

“I’m not—”

“Yes, you are. So how about it? I’ll be there in the morning at eight sharp,” Claire said.
He sighed. “I’m not going to get a word in, am I?”

“The sooner you give me what I want, the sooner I’ll be out of your hair. And I have a feeling you’d like my case to get solved quickly. So, if you let me help, we can solve this together.”

“What about the sheriff? Isn’t he working on it?”

“He is. But I’ve never been one to sit around and wait. I like to take control.” She grinned. “If you know what I mean,” she added the last part for the laugh. She was sure Jace’s eyes were wide at the moment.

“I’m only agreeing to this because I do need the help. I have no idea how this is going to work. But I guess I’ll see you at eight tomorrow.”

“Great. See you then.” She ended the call.

That had worked out better than she’d expected. Then again, she hadn’t even given the poor man a chance to speak. She plopped down on her bed. Tomorrow she was going to begin getting to the bottom of this.
