Business magnate Luca Venancio is returning to Rio to pay his respects to his late brother, and to seduce his once fiancée, Daniella, back into his bed. Blackmailed into a violent farce of a marriage, Daniella had no choice but to comply to protect Luca's life, even though it meant never being able to see him again. Luca's flawless plan soon becomes complicated when he discovers Daniella is expecting his brother's child. It becomes even more complicated when old passions return. Can he actually go through with seducing her, bedding her, and then discarding her?

Author Info

I live in Essex, not too far from London, with my very understanding husband, our identical twin boys, and two Bedlington Terriers. We're crammed into our rather cozy two-up two-down terrace and we can barely swing a cat, but hey, we love it. I work part-time as a nurse, but when I'm off duty, you will find me either chasing the toddlers around like a headless chicken, head buried in a book, or tapping away at my stories.
I have always loved to read and romance is by far my favourite genre! You can easily escape into such promising worlds, where sexy Alpha males lead the way and strong heroine's often can't help but fall head over heels in love. I adore a Happy Ever After - as I'm sure we all do if we're honest, right?!

Reading and writing go hand in hand and from the day I could read, I enjoyed writing. To put pen to paper and conjure up weird and wonderful little stories was what I thrived on! English was my favourite class at school right throughout to secondary - and I will always be thankful for the teachers who gave me the opportunities to develop and be creative! If I remember rightly, one of my first stories was called 'The Turkey Who Could Talk'...but I'll tell you more about that some other day :-)

What sparked your interest in becoming a romance writer? ClichĂ© but I’ve always loved books. When I was little I always remember my Mum reading to me before bed and I guess it just grew from there. When I was about nine a teacher gave me a copy of Red Sky In The Morning by Elizabeth Laird. I devoured it within hours and although I was only young it made me ‘feel’.  Really feel. I can remember crying. I knew then I wanted to make people ‘feel’ like that. Not necessarily cry LOL but make the reader experience something within book. Make their heart race, bring tears to their eyes, gasp, shout out loud, laugh and most importantly, remember.

What is your writing environment.  It’s not very luxurious sadly. It usually consists of my laptop balancing on my knees while I sit on the settee once the children have gone to bed. I’m hoping one day when we have a bigger house I can have a special study/office space! A girl can dream J

One of your favorite quotes. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

What’s the last movie you watched and loved? Fast and Furious Six! Vin = YUM!

Flirting Questions
Which actor or book character do you have a crush on? I;m not going to lie, it has to be Christian Grey.
What’s your favorite body part of the opposite sex? His….cough, cough J No, seriously, I love strong, muscly arms.
When was your last kiss? This morning when hubby left to go to work.
How did you meet your significant other? At work. We were both nurses in on an elderly dementia unit at the time. Romance at it’s finest! LOL.
Do you believe in love at first sight? Anything is possible, so yes!

Flirting Quickies:

Facial hair or clean shaven? I like a nice amount of stubble.

Alpha or Beta? Alpha all the way.

Planner or Panster? Panster sadly.

Vanilla or chocolate? Chocolate.

Laptop or desktop? Laptop.
Cat or dog? Dog.
Twilight or Fifty Shades? Fifty Shades.
Clubbing or candlelight dinner? Candlelight dinner.
Backpacking or luxury hotel? Luxury hotel – I’m a holiday snob LOL.
Morning or night person? Can I be a midday person? J
Christmas or Halloween? Christmas

“I will get out here,” Daniella said, reaching for the door handle.

“No, keep driving,” Luca ordered, glaring at the chauffeur and pressing the central lock button.

Although he hadn’t been back to the house, he clearly remembered where his brother had lived. It had been his parents’ home and he had grown up there. He would never forget the decrepit building that had desperately needed restoring. Paint had chipped and flaked off of the dreary walls, and the rooms were so small they felt claustrophobic. He had spent many nights sitting on the roof listening to faint arguments between his parents, whilst he dreamed of a better life.

“You don’t think I at least deserve an explanation? Some minor clarification as to why you just left me in the dark?” Luca stared at her intently and she opened and then quickly closed her mouth again, biting down on her bottom lip until it darkened to a deeper tone of pink.

He kept his eyes on her, not even blinking, as he looked her up and down. She was a shadow of the vibrant girl he remembered; the Daniella he had known five years ago. Sitting beside him now she was scared, the fear was wild in her eyes, and she was clearly malnourished, evident from the black sack of a dress, which hung off her delicate frame.

“When did you last eat something?” It was more of a demand than a question.

“Excuse me?” He finally had her attention.

“You heard me. When did you last eat something?”

“That’s none of your business.” She pulled the cardigan tighter around her midriff and turned away from him.

“I’m concerned. You look ill.”

“Well, I’m not. I’m…I’m…” He watched as she stumbled for her words. “I’m just grieving, okay?”

Fair enough, she may have been grieving for the last twenty-four hours. It was bound to have been a grueling short space of time for her to comprehend Miguel’s death and have the customary quick funeral. But what about before Miguel’s death? The circles under her eyes and fading blue marks across her jaw were old; her skin and hair were dull and lifeless and told a story. They sat in silence as the chauffeur strategically maneuvered the Bentley through the favela’s never-ending maze of winding roads, passing makeshift house upon house, small street markets, and gangs on each corner. Luca’s eyes fixed on the house in front of them when the car eased to a halt a few meters away from their destination, and he recognized it instantly as his childhood home.

Reaching for the door, Daniella pulled on it a couple of times before he pressed the central locking release.

She looked over her shoulder and whispered, “You really have to go now.”
He had given in far too easily years ago, this time he was a different man; a man who always got what he wanted, however cruel and ruthless he had to be. He had to remember that. Love had left him weak and feeble. It had taken time to gather himself and learn to never let emotions take over. Work was his haven, a place for him to focus and throw himself and his energy into. He would prove to Daniella that she had made the wrong choice.

Placing a hand on her shoulder, Luca’s fingers brushed against her dark curls and the nape of her neck. “I’m not going anywhere this time.” He leaned closer, his gaze fixed on her mouth. “I’ve come for something and I intend to get it.”

Chapter One

COLE THOMAS HAD BEEN a late bloomer. One of the smallest boys in their middle school, he’d disappeared to his uncle’s ranch in Wyoming the summer before high school and had come back six inches taller, wearing a cowboy hat. Kiley St. Claire doubted the woman he was currently flirting with remembered that. It was practically ancient history.

She squinted as she tried to remember the woman’s name. Cole’s fangirl looked vaguely familiar under her over-processed blond hair and cheap but abundant makeup. She was probably one of Cole and Kiley’s former classmates. Amber maybe, or one of the Ashleys. She was pretty—whatever her name was—and she had a fantastic rack. More importantly, she wasn’t wearing a cheap Bavarian Miss costume and pigtails like Kiley was. If they were competing, the babe with the penchant for bleach and blue eye shadow would win. They weren’t, of course. Kiley was done crushing on Cole. It was obvious—had been for years—that he’d never see her as more than a friend.

She straightened the red bodice that made even her own modest chest look full, pulled the notepad from her already sticky apron, and marched over to their table. Her heels clicked along the scuffed and murky wood floor. No doubt it had originally been a beautiful walnut. Now it was covered with a layer of scum as old as she was and fit right in with the rest of the decor.

The entire bar was filled with heavy, dark wood tables and stools covered in faded maroon vinyl. Kept clean and under the right lighting it had probably once been genuinely attractive. Probably. If that had ever been the case it had stopped the day Kiley’s boss, the infamous Buddy, bought the building and started filling it with kitschy, vaguely German-themed knick-knacks and neon beer signs. Cole and the blonde were sitting near a display of Hummel knock-offs, one of which appeared to be mooning the patrons.

A table full of afternoon-drunk Frat guys signaled to Kiley. She held up a single finger in acknowledgement. They could use a couple minutes before their next round, and she had to do this, face Cole, before she lost her nerve. “Are you guys ready to order, or do you need another minute with the menus?”

“Kiley?” Cole’s dark eyes widened for a second before he started laughing. His shoulders shook, and he slapped the worn wooden tabletop. “This is…” He gestured toward her. “This…oh, you gotta give a turn.” He circled a finger in the air.

“Do you want a beer or not?” She refused to be embarrassed. Yes, she was dressed like the St. Pauli girl, but it obviously hadn’t been her idea. She didn’t even like wearing costumes on Halloween.

“I heard you were coming back for the summer, but this…damn.”

“School’s expensive, Cole, and there aren’t a lot of summer jobs in this town.” Barrett, Vermont was a pretty little town, not a thriving metropolis. If there had been other options, any other options, she wouldn’t be dressed like slutty Gretel serving beer and waffles in a Bavarian-themed restaurant owned by a man who’d never traveled farther than Montreal.

Cole looked her up and down with a big grin on his too-handsome face. Kiley pretended not to notice that his thick, brown hair was a touch longer than the last time she’d seen him, or that it curled appealingly against the collar of his blue-green plaid shirt. She tried not to check the scar on his left arm—a thin jagged line that was only really noticeable when the skin around it tanned a shade or two darker. Her heart melted a little when she saw it.

Cole had only recently turned eight the night they went searching for Kiley’s runaway dog. He got tangled in a bit of barbed wire fence hidden amongst the leaves in the woods behind her neighbor’s house. The dog came home on his own later that night, but Cole ended up needing
stitches in four places. And a tetanus shot. He made her promise not to tell anyone he’d cried, and she drew a cross over her heart and wished for untold tortures if she broke her word.

She still hadn’t.

“So why’d you come then?”

Kiley shrugged. Way to make a girl feel welcome, Cole. “It’s home.”

“Wasn’t enough to bring you home last Christmas, or the one before.”

Yup. She was a horrible daughter, and her mom let the whole town know it. Mother dearest undoubtedly left out that Kiley couldn’t afford to pay for a rental car sturdy enough to make the several-hour trip in wintry weather.

Before she had a chance to respond, the blonde sitting with Cole tilted her head to the side and frowned at her. “I remember you.” She smiled then, broadly, as though remembering anything was an accomplishment worthy of her pride.

Kiley tried to smile at the woman, but her lips were too tight. “Go Bobcats,” she said weakly.

“Yeah, you were in my gym class. Didn’t you get hit in the face with a tennis ball one time?”

Kiley had long ago accepted that, despite the lack of any reasonable scientific explanation, her face clearly attracted sporting equipment. She’d absolutely gotten hit with a tennis ball, as well as a volleyball, a softball, and a Frisbee. Once she’d even managed to get wacked in the nose with a broom while they’d attempted to play a grounded version of Quidditch. “Yup, that was me.”

The other woman nodded. “I knew it. I’ve always been good with faces.”

“Wow. Catching up is super fun, but I have a bunch of tables. So…”

“Were you even going to give me a call?” Cole looked hurt, and Kiley wished she didn’t care.

“Sure. Once I got settled and all, I—”

“Right.” He scowled. “Why don’t you bring us a couple of drafts. Whatever’s on special is fine.”

His cool tone sliced through her resolve and made her stomach churn. Why couldn’t she just move on? Being Cole’s friend, watching him date every other girl in town, hurt too much. She’d promised herself she wouldn’t fall back into his well-meaning but clueless clutches this summer. Kiley had come home to work and to save up enough money to live on for the final semester of classes she needed to earn her Master’s in Meteorology. That’s it. She already had job prospects for after graduation in January. This would be her last summer at home.

She nodded. “I’ll be right back with your drinks.”

He’d already turned back to the blonde.

 The Excerpt

I focused on those gorgeous lips. “I think you’re all bark and no bite, and that you’re trying to chase me away with your bad attitude because you’re afraid of me. I bet you like to be in control of everything all the time, don’t you?”

She swallowed and I felt everything below my belt tighten to the point of pain. I dug my hand into the hunk of hair at the back of her head and gently pulled her toward me. She didn’t resist as my heart rate picked up and her breaths came in little pants.

“You’re afraid you won’t be able to control a guy like me, aren’t you? And you know what? You’re right. You wouldn’t be able to control me. But I’d take you on the ride of your life, and you’d thank me for it afterwards.” I leaned in ever so slowly, my lips hovering over hers as her eyes fluttered shut. I could feel the heat from her face, and her chest grazed mine, setting off sparks all up and down my spine. Her hair was like strands of silk, and I gripped the back of her head tighter, pulling her that infinitesimal bit closer. She had a quick intake of breath and I felt my chest clutch.

[Blog Tour] Shadow Born by Nicole Camp #Giveaway

I'm so excited to be on the blog today. And while I'm here I thought I'd share some of the music that helps me create books like Shadow Born.

When working on the sequels to Shadow Born I often listen to music to set the tone for a specific scene I want to work on. I do this in the brainstorming phase, where I picture the entire scene just like it would be in a movie, my character moving around in their environment before me almost as if they I were watching them on a screen. When I put fingers to keyboard and start actually typing out the scene I turn the music off. It can make it harder to figure out word for word exactly what to say. But whenever I’m trying to come up with my next move in the books, music helps me find my place and pace it out.

Some of the music I am currently listening to for scene-inspiration, and because I think these are something Raffin himself might listen to, or they perfectly describe his situation in life, are:

Skillet “Whispers In The Dark” - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B58OBfM-8A4

“Titanium” sung by Madalyn Bailey - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGoCtJzPHkU

Toxic ‘Melanie Martinez’ The Voice Performance - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4CI6HUx7Qc

One Republic “All The Right Moves” - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrOeGCJdZe4

Katy Perry “Dark Horse”- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk_OiMqET0A

Imagine Dragons “Monster”- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhSA9H9Iaqw

Imagine Dragons “Demons”- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWRsgZuwf_8

Imagine Dragons “Radioactive”-   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktvTqknDobU

I hope you all enjoy the eclectic music choices. Thank you, Melinda, for having me on your blog!

[Blog Tour] Rekindled Dreams by Linda Carroll-Bradd

When museum curator Vena Fenton returns to her small Montana hometown, she’s forced to live under the same roof as Finnian Quaid, the star of more than one teenage fantasy. Finnian is now an environmental lobbyist, making a bid for senate, and is as dreamy as ever.

Finnian needs a more settled image if he wants to get ahead in the polls. In order to do that, he needs a wife. With Vena living under his roof, his problem seems solved. As the romantic sparks fly, there's more at risk than Finnian's political aspirations. Can they keep their eye on the prize, or will their growing love derail them both?

Excerpt :

Finn stood at the entrance of the gazebo, grinning. “Should have figured you’d be here.”
“Hi.” Her jumbled thoughts prevented a clever response. “You look tired.”
“Today’s been hard—full of facts and figures.” He stepped forward and held out his arms. “Just seeing you makes me feel better. I need a hug, Elfie.”
Without hesitation, she walked into his embrace, melting against his firm body. His arms grasped her shoulders, and then crossed slowly over her back and molded her body to his.
Finn groaned. “You don’t know how much I’ve wanted this since this morning.” He turned his face into her hair and inhaled. “This is what’s important. Not what’s going on in some corporate boardroom.”
Vena stroked her fingers along the corded muscles of his neck and played with the ends of his hair. Their children would all have heads covered with masses of curls. Whoa. She was letting herself get carried away. What mattered was he was holding her, telling her with his body that he needed her. She could give him a calm place to come home to, could be his anchor in life’s storm.
His head dipped lower, and his lips nuzzled kisses along her neck to her shoulder. The brush of his stubble on tender skin made her shiver.
“Don’t you have anything warmer than this?” His voice was gruff, but his eyes were caring as he arranged the crocheted shawl over her exposed shoulders. Using his grip on the cloth, he pulled her close, and his mouth covered hers in a possessive kiss. “How was the rest of your day? I’ve been—”
Lips still tingling, Vena came to a decision. She didn’t want to talk. The hours since he’d left her in this exact spot had dragged, especially when every single thought came back to Finn.
From under the shawl, she twined her arms around his waist, hands locking behind his back. Pressing against the heat at the tops of her legs, she gave herself up to the rush of wanting. She tasted his mouth from one angle and then another, the pull of desire tugging deep in her belly. So often, she had thought of this, and vowed to make this night unforgettable.
No matter what came tomorrow.

Linda Carroll-Bradd

As a child, Linda was often found lying on her bed reading about characters having exciting adventures in places far away. Upon reaching a landmark birthday, she decided to write one of those romances she loved so much. Easier said than done. Perseverance paid out and twelve years later, she received her first call from a publisher and a confession story was published. Now Linda writes heartwarming contemporary and historical stories with a touch of humor, and many have a tie to her previous home of Texas.

Linda enjoys writing from her cabin in the mountains among the cedar and pines with her husband of 34 years and their two much-loved dogs.

Silence rushed to fill the space between them. Desperate to keep the conversation moving, Carlie jerked her chin in the direction of the chandelier. “I love how big that is.”

“Really?” Nick lifted one eyebrow and his lips quirked at the corners. “I’ve heard size is important.”

Embarrassment burned all the way up her neck and face. “I meant the chandelier. I wasn’t saying...” Holy crap. She was supposed to flirt. Another woman would have come up with a witty comeback, but Carlie had nothing.

He laughed and reached across the table, patting her hand. “Relax. I figured that’s what you meant. Just trying to lighten the mood.”

“I’m sorry. I don’t mean to be so nervous.”

“It’s okay, but you really don’t need to be. I don’t bite. Well,” he glanced at the tablecloth briefly before looking at her again, heat in his gaze, “not on the first date.”

“I...you...” Carlie gasped for a few seconds and then sighed. Shelley would be so disappointed in her. “I’m not good at this.”

“You’re not trying to tell me you don’t date much, are you?”

“Well, actually, I don’t.” She took a sip of water. The truth was the wrong path to take here. Guys wanted worldly, experienced girls who knew how to have a good time.

She winked at him, hoping it didn’t look like she had something in her eye. “At least, not men as sexy as you.”

He winked back. “And big, don’t forget big.”
